Sixty seconds

It’s time for another dose of Mondays Finish the Story! It wasn’t that easy (for me) to write a fiction based on the photo prompt. But I did try! I hope you enjoy reading it!

****************

When the team heard the dam explode, they knew they had limited time to make it to safety.

After hours of paddling, they were left with very little energy, and were simply drifting on whitewater.

First, “a loud thump”. Next, a minute of “what the heck was that?” Then the adrenaline kick.

“Faster! Faster!”

When death came flowing in waves, they all made one last frantic effort to beat it. Their cumulative paddling brought the raft closer to the riverbank.

“Jump! Jump!”

Finally, the survival instinct.  They all jumped. Plop!

Death did give them a sixty seconds warning. They shouldn’t have waited to figure it out!
